The Bulemeezi County Chief (Kkangaawo), Ronald Mulondo, has expressed deep concern over the rising prevalence of HIV/AIDS in his jurisdiction, revealing that at least 15 out of every 100 people are living with the virus.
He noted with particular concern that the infection rate is highest among young people aged 16 to 24, a trend he described as both alarming and heartbreaking.
Mulondo made the remarks while participating as the chief runner in Semuto Sub-county during the Kabaka Birthday Run. He commended the Kabaka for his continued commitment to fighting HIV/AIDS.
“It is very worrying that out of every 100 people in Bulemeezi—covering Nakaseke and Luweero—at least 15 are living with HIV. What pains me most is that the infection rate is highest among our young people aged 16 to 24,” he said.
He also applauded the youth who turned up in large numbers to take part in the run, urging them to remain disciplined and avoid behaviors that increase their risk of infection.
“I thank the young people for participating in this noble cause. I urge them to stay strong, protect themselves, and avoid temptations that may lead to life-threatening consequences,” he added.
The Archdeacon of Semuto Archdeaconry in the Church of Uganda, Rev. Canon James Ebil, who flagged off the run, congratulated the Kabaka on celebrating his 71st birthday and praised him for championing the fight against HIV/AIDS.
“We congratulate His Majesty upon reaching 71 years and thank him for using his birthday to mobilize people in the fight against HIV/AIDS,” Rev. Ebil said.
On behalf of the people of Semuto who participated in the run, the Kabaka’s Sub-county Chief, Ronald Kasule, expressed gratitude to all those who turned up to celebrate the Kabaka’s birthday through the run and support efforts to eliminate HIV/AIDS.
“We thank everyone who has come to celebrate the Kabaka’s birthday by participating in this run and supporting efforts to eliminate HIV/AIDS,” Kasule noted.
